Forest Management

National Forests were established to provide watershed protection and continual forest resources for the nation. The Green Mountain National Forest manages for both the present and future generations. Forest resources, including wildlife habitat, wilderness, clean water, timber and forest products, and recreation opportunities are conserved through a balance of activities and uses. The subject headings above present information on some of our management programs.

Management of our Forest is guided by the Forest Plan, which was most recently revised in 2006.  The revised Forest Plan will guide the management of the Green Mountain National Forest for the next 10 to 15 years. The revised plans are strategic in nature, with an emphasis on ecological, social, and economic sustainability over the long-term. The Green Mountain and Finger Lakes National Forests held a series of collaborative, monthly public meetings during the Forest Plan revision process. These meetings helped shape the development of the 2006 Forest Plans. We invite you to stay informed and involved as we move ahead with site-specific project planning under the direction of our 2006 Forest Plan.  Forest Projects
