The mission of the Soil and Water Program on the Green Mountain National Forest is to protect and restore the soil and water resources. This includes protection and restoration of aquatic, wetland and riparian ecosystems, soil and water quality, and soil productivity. We accomplish much of our mission thanks to cooperative projects with federal, state and local government agencies and non-governmental entities. Approval for Research and Monitoring Projects Green Mountain National Forest lands are available for research and monitoring projects that address valid information needs, and comply with direction in the Land and Resource Management Plan. We welcome your proposals, and recommend you contact us 6 months prior to your desired project starting date. Proposed projects undergo careful review to determine if they are appropriate. Approved projects often need a Special Use Permit for which there is a fee, typically $50.00.
