Poor = bare spots on sections of trails with little snow on connector roads.

Fair = Packed snow forming the foundation of the trail

Good= Accumulation of packed snow forming the foundation of the trail with fallen snow top coating and groomed.

Excellent = Good plus a fresh snow cover with good density or weight of water, a packable snow depth that allows heavy traffic and will still hold up. No moguls. Trails well groomed and time allowed for trail to freeze in prior to heavy use.

CAUTION

Snowmobile trails are open to motorized AND non-motrized recreational activities, including mushers. Please share the trail.

Connector #6 will experience heavy truck traffic on weekdays and weekends.

Reminder: Connector trail (#4) that goes thru State Game Lands No. 29 has been permanently closed effective Decemeber 17, 2007.

GAS LOCATIONS:

Whig Hill Store is now open and selling gas and diesel fuel.

Kwik Fill (Marienville) Follow the RR from off of ASL 1 behind Unimart approx. 1 mile to the barricades located on the tracks accross from the Kwik Fill station. Travel through the drive way to the stop sign at Rt 66. Please stay on the trail at all times. Observe the speed limit and respect property owners. "Tread Lightly"

GROOMING INFORMATION:

For the 2009-2010 snowmobile season, snowmobile trail grooming will occur during the night (Thursday through Monday). In addition, Forest Service personnel will be inspecting the trails in order to identify where the groomers should focus and to report on trail conditions.

Watch Out:

Oil & Gas Acitivity

Many of the following roads are used as primary access for Oil & Gas operators, have new developments in the works, and in some instances have a high degree of of public use.

FR 202, FR 370

The following roads have log truck traffic from timber sales: FR 131, 226,150, 279, 186, 133, and a very short length of 195.

Please use caution and keep an eye out for other users when riding on the above multi-use roads.


 


 

Trail users should be aware of local trail conditions, other vehicle traffic - especially commercial truck traffic and other potential safety hazards. Many of our snowmobile trails are on joint use roads. Users should be aware that they may encounter vehicles at any time.

Regulations: We would like to remind riders that helmets are required as well as a valid state registration for snowmobiles from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation & Natural Resources to ride on Allegheny National Forest Trails. All riders are required to stay to the right on the trails and the use of alcohol while riding is strictly prohibited. To ensure the safety of yourself and others, please ride at the recommended 45 mph speed limit, or at posted speed limit - which ever is less.
