About Helitack

The Crew

The Superior NF Helitack crew consists of 6 people plus 2 detailers. Our contract is 212 days long. It starts on March 1st on the Hoosier NF and remains there until April 19th. It then moves to the Chequamegon-Nicollet NF until May 21st and then finally moves to the crew's home base of Ely, MN. Our helicopter is a Bell 206 L4.

The crew is comprised of a Foreman, Assistant Foreman, Squad leader and Senior Firefighter. The other 2 positions are filled with 2 seasonal 1039's. This is our second season of filling one additional slot with a firefighter apprentice from the Mendicino NF in R5.

While on fire assignments the crew will fill Air Operations jobs such as DECK, ABRO, TOLC, HEBM and HLCO. We will also fill Operations positions such as Strike Team Leader, Task Force Leader and Division Supervisor. While on assignments that require initial attack we can fill the incident commander role up to the ICT3 level.
