Southern Region Recreation
Resource Advisory Committee (RRAC)

The Southern Region Recreation Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) is a citizen's advisory committee that makes recommendations on creating new or changing existing recreation fees managed by the Forest Service in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and the territory of Puerto Rico.

The Southern Region Recreation RAC is authorized under the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act, which was signed into law in December 2004. Advice and recommendations from the Southern Region Recreation RAC is combined with other public notification and communication efforts to help the Forest Service make sound decisions regarding recreation fees.

Recreation RAC Membership

Forest Service established Recreation RACs, consist of 11 members who represent the following interests as indicated in REA. The current Southern Region Recreation RAC members are:

Category 1 - Five people who represent recreation users and that include, as appropriate, camping, wildlife viewing/visiting interpretive sites, motorized recreation, non-motorized recreation, hunting and fishing.

Category 3 - Three people who are: (1) a state tourism official representing the state, (2) a representative of affected Indian Tribes, and (3) a representative of affected local government interests.

Recreation RAC Meetings

The Southern Region Recreation RAC is a Federal Advisory Committee. All meetings are open to the public.

Meeting information, including meeting announcements, minutes, project proposals and recommendations, will be made available as soon as the documents are produced. Check this site before and after each meeting to stay informed on the work of the Southern Region Recreation RAC or to provide comments.
