ATV / Off Highway Vehicle Use

Currently the use of All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) on the National Forests in Mississippi is limited to designated areas located on the ranger districts.

State law prohibits ATVs/OHVs from being operated on public roads, US Forest Service roads are considered public roads.

It is illegal to operate any vehicle off road on any public lands in a manner that causes resource damage or in rivers and streams within the state of Mississippi. Please consult the appropriate district ranger office for further information.

 
 
 
Arson


Deliberately set fires damage thousands of acres each year in the National Forests in Mississippi


Under 18 USC 1855, it is a felony to deliberately set timber or forest lands on fire. It is a misdemeanor under 18 USC 1856 to allow a fire to escape control. Mississippi state law also provides for the punishment of wildfire arson.
