Big Foot Horse Trail

21 miles of trail which is excellent for beginning as well as experienced riders. Horse or foot travel only

Facilities:
· 4 loops ranging in length from 5 to 11 miles which may be combined for a ride of any length
· Parking facilities at trailhead camp
· Unnumbered primitive camping sites
· Toilets
· Hitching rails
· Unloading ramp
· Stock pond

Directions: Take Hwy 49 to Saucier; take Hwy 67 east to four-way stop; take County Rd 412 (Airey Tower Rd) north 3 miles to Forest Service Rd 440; go east 1 mile to trail camp

Bethel Bicycle Trail

25 miles of trail provides differing levels of challenge for the mountain biker

Facilities:
· Unnumbered primitive camping sites at trailhead
Fees: None
Directions: Take Hwy 49 to Saucier; turn east on Hwy 67; go to four-way stop; continue east on County Rd 402 (Bethel Rd) for about 6 ½ miles; turn south on Forest Service Rd 426 and go 1 ½ miles; trailhead is at intersection of roads 426 and 426-A OR from Interstate 10, exit north on I-110; turn north on Hwy 15; travel 12 miles to Forest Service Rd 426; turn west and go about 2 ½ miles to road 426-A

Black Creek Hiking Trail


Mississippi’s longest trail stretches for 41 miles, from Big Creek Landing to Fairley Bridge Landing. Hikers can travel from one to several days over rolling hills and through the flat land of the Black Creek floodplain. About 10 miles of the trail passes through the Black Creek Wilderness.
Notice: Only foot travel is permitted. A map of the trail can be purchased.
Facilities:
· Primitive camping is permitted 100 feet away from the trail
· No drinking water is available along the trail
Fees: None
Directions: Access is provided at Big Creek Landing; Fairley Bridge Landing; Hwy 29 trailhead; or any of the other numerous trailheads or roads that intersect the trail

General Jackson Interpretive Trail

¼ mile trail describing General Andrew Jackson’s march along the Old Federal Road from Mobile to New Orleans during the War of 1812
Located where General Jackson and his troops crossed Black Creek by ferry
Facilities: Parking area*Fees: None
Directions: Trailhead parking lot is located on the west side of Hwy 29, approximately 10 miles north of Wiggins

Leaf Hiking Trail

1 ½ mile trail winds through the middle of the Leaf Wilderness Area
Built mostly on an elevated boardwalk
Facilities: Parking area

Directions: Trailhead parking lot is located on the east side of Hwy 57 approximately 10 miles north of Benndale and 6 miles south of McLain

Tuxachanie Hiking Trail

Tuxachanie TrailThis 23 mile long trail traverses longleaf pine covered ridges, pitcher plant savannas, and flooded tupelo/bald cypress swamps. From rows of live oaks planted at the trail’s entrance, the first 5 miles follow an old, abandoned logging railroad which once served the sawmill of the Dantzler Lumber Company at Howison. Remains of the railroad trestles, built by Irish immigrants in the early 1900’s, can still be seen on some of the creek crossings.
Notice: This trail is designated for foot travel only except on a short section used in conjunction with the Big Foot Horse Trail. No motorized vehicles allowed. A map of the trail can be purchased.
Facilities:
· Parking is provided at Hwy 49 trailhead, Airey Lake, and POW Lake.
· Primitive camping is permitted 100 feet away from the trail except during deer hunting season when a permit is required
· No drinking water is available along the trail except at Airey Lake

Bethel ATV Trail

Open

40 mile all-terrain trail winds through the piney woods of the Coastal Plain
Notice: No riding is permitted along the trail during dog deer hunting season except on Sundays when the Red Creek Management Area is closed

Directions: Take Hwy 49 to Saucier; take Hwy 67 east to four-way stop; continue east on County Rd 402 (Bethel Rd) for 5 miles; turn north on Marvin Williams Rd for 1 ¾ miles; turn east on Forest Service Rd 417A for 1 ½ miles; follow signs to trailhead

Rattlesnake Bay ATV Trail

Closed for repairs

Trail is currently closed until further notice.
31 mile all-terrain trail which contains steeper hills winding through the northern part of the De Soto
Notice: This trail is located in the special use permit area for the Camp Shelby Military Training Site. Wheeled traffic, tank, and foot maneuver exercises are sometimes conducted in this area (mostly in the months of May-September). A few miles of the trail are also used for some of these exercises, however, riding can still occur in the area. For more information concerning training schedules, contact Camp Shelby Range Control at 601-558-2709.

Directions: From Hattiesburg, take Hwy 49 south for about 6 miles; go east on Hwy 98 for 14 miles to New Augusta; go south on Hwy 29 for 2 miles to Forest Service Rd 312; follow signs to trailhead OR from Wiggins, go 25 miles north on Hwy 29 to Forest Service Rd 312 then follow signs
