Who determines the hunting regulations and ensures they
are being followed?
MS Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks
Where can I ride an ATV on the forest and do I need a permit?
There are over 45 miles of designated ATV trails throughout
the forest. Parking is available at each trailhead. WMA check-in
stations contain hunting brochures with a district map on
the back or you can pick one up at the district office. A
permit can be purchased at any self-service fee station or

only sold at the district office.
Why can horses go anywhere on the forest and are not restricted
to trails?
Horses are not motorized vehicles.
Does reserving a campsite mean I am the only one allowed
to hunt around the campsite?
No. You are only reserving the campsite, not the surrounding
forest.
What is a GTR? How is it determined
which will be flooded each year? Why do they have different
regulations for waterfowl
within the GTR’s?
Greentree reservoirs (GTRs) are stands of bottomland hardwood
forests that are typically equipped with levees and water-control
structures and flooded during the dormant season to provide
mast and invertebrates for wintering waterfowl.
Greentree reservoirs are flooded every other year on an alternate schedule.
This flooding strategy is designed to decrease tree mortality and allow for
regeneration in years of good mast production.
Greentree reservoirs not only serve as feeding areas for
wintering waterfowl but also resting areas. In order to provide
for all aspects of waterfowl needs, hunting after 12:00 PM
is not allowed in greentree reservoirs.
Are waterfowl seasons along with other seasons always the
same as statewide?
Waterfowl season dates are set by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and are
the same throughout Mississippi. See Federal Regulations.
Any other season and bag limit not described in the Sunflower
WMA regulations brochure are the same as the statewide season
and bag limit.
How many people can camp with a campsite?
There is no set limit.
Why can a campsite be only reserved for fourteen days at
a time?
To allow others the opportunity to use the campsite.
Can I drink alcoholic beverages while sitting in my campsite?

regulations. Contact the Mississippi Department of Wildlife,
Fisheries and Parks.
