ANNOUNCEMENT

Prescribed Burn on the Catahoula Ranger District will be scheduled soon

The United States Forest Service, Catahoula Ranger District will be conducting a prescribed Burn in the Camp Livingston area soon. All trails will be closed for 2 or more days for public and fire fighter safety. We are trying to perform the burn on weekdays but may also include weekends. Vehicles driving through the area please beware during burning operation that Parish roads 3130 and 1204 could have smoke over road so please drive safe and turn on headlights and watch out for burn personnel. Please check website ( www.fs.fed.us/r8/kisatchie/ ), Right tool bar click on OTV trail status for the actual days of the burn. We will try to have it posted a day or two in advance. Wildfire Prevention Tips

Campfire Tips
  • Check for local fire restrictions before going camping.
  • Keep a shovel and water available.
  • Build campfires in an area free from litter, grass, and other flammable material.
  • Use a campfire ring when possible.
  • Keep fire small and controllable.
  • Never leave a campfire unattended.
  • Drown all campfires and charcoal with water and stir until ashes are cold to the touch.
  • Make sure the campfire is DEAD OUT before leaving the site.

Debris Burning Tips

  • Build debris piles away from structures, vegetation, power lines, or other flammable material.
  • Cover piles and wait until after it rains to burn.
  • Clear litter and grass at least 5 feet away from piles.
  • Keep piles small and free of dirt.
  • If burning debris in a barrel, cover top with 1/2 inch or less mesh screen.
  • Never leave a burning debris pile unattended.
  • Make sure the pile is DEAD OUT before leaving the site.

Hunter Tips

  • Drown all campfires and charcoal with water and stir until ashes are cold to the touch.
  • Keep fire small and controllable.
  • Never leave a campfire unattended.
  • Make sure the campfire is DEAD OUT before leaving the site.
  • Use an ashtray; Completely extinguish cigarettes.
  • Never park on dry grass.
  • Check for local fire restrictions before going hunting.

Vehicle Tips

  • Never park any vehicle on dry grass.
  • Grease wheel bearings, check tires, and secure safety chains on trailers.
  • All ATV's/OHV's require a properly functioning spark arrestor.
  • Check and clean spark arrestors.
  • Carry a fire extinguisher.
  • Use an ashtray; Completely extinguish cigarettes.
