Catahoula Ranger District Camping Information

     The Catahoula Ranger District offers a unique camping experience in the Stuart Lake Recreation Complex. Stuart Lake provides visitors with many recreational opportunities including swimming, picnicking, hiking and biking, fishing, and camping. Other camps within the district are designated hunter camps which are seasonally maintained for the hunting season but are open year around to the general public. The only designated fee area campground is the Stuart Lake Recreation Complex campground.


IMPORTANT NOTICE - 12 September, 2009

     Stuart Lake Campground is closed at this time until further notice for onging reconstruction activities. The anticipated re-opening is early October, 2009. Catahoula Ranger District Camping

Stuart Lake Campground: Stuart Lake Recreation Complex includes the Stuart Lake Campground. The picturesque setting of Stuart Lake as a backdrop to this quiet campground tops off visitors enjoyment of the many recreational activities. Hiking and biking on the Glenn Emery Trail or the Stuart Nature Trail, swimming at the beach, fishing on the lake, picnicking at the day-use area or the group-use facility, are just some of the many activities available.


NOTE: There are four designated camping sites to serve the National Catahoula Wildlife Management Preserve. The following four campsites are the only areas where camping is allowed within the preserve.

Bankston Camp: The Bankston Camp is a camp designated for use by hunters during the hunting season although it can be used by all year-around inside the National Catahoula Wildlife Management Preserve. Available at this facility is group camping, tent camping, information board, and restrooms.

Highway 472 Hunter's Camp: The Highway 472 Hunter's Camp is a camp designated for use by hunters during the hunting season although it can be used by all year-around inside the National Catahoula Wildlife Management Preserve. Hwy 472 camp is split into to locations directly across from each other. Each facility provides group camping, tent camping, information board, and restrooms.

Pearson Camp: The Pearson Hunter's Camp is located off Hwy 167, just south of the hunter checkstation. It is a camp designated for use by hunters during the hunting season although it can be used by all year-around inside the National Catahoula Wildlife Management Preserve. Available at this facility is group camping, tent camping, information board, and restrooms.

Saddle Bayou Camp: The Saddle Bayou Hunter's Camp is located in a unique hardwood setting, just off Saddle Bayou. It is a camp designated for use by hunters during the hunting season although it can be used by all year-around inside the National Catahoula Wildlife Management Preserve. Available at this facility is group camping, tent camping, information board, and restrooms.
