Welcome to the Warm Springs Ranger District
10/15/09 Reservations for Bolar Mountain Campgrounds at Lake Moomaw are currently unavailable. It is anticipated reservations will resume in January or February. This affects Bolar Mountain Campgrounds 1, 2, 3. Sugar Ridge Campground continues to take reservations up to 180 days in advance at www.recreation.gov or 1-877-444-6777

Come out and enjoy the great outdoors on the beautiful Warm Springs Ranger District. Some of the best trout streams in the state run through this area of the forest and some of these streams feed into Lake Moomaw. Lake Moomaw offers boating, water skiing and swimming, in addition to fishing. Several nearby developed campgrounds offer a good place to stay while you enjoy the outdoors. You will discover that the abundance of roads open during hunting season, and isolated places to hike into, together with plentiful game make the district a great place to hunt.
There are many good places for horseback riding and hiking on over 120 miles of trails, or you can travel around the back roads by automobile and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The district is rich in both cultural and natural history. Visit these pages to see the opportunities to view the natural wonders and historic sites that are available to you. The Warm Springs Ranger District is located in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of west central Virginia. It lies within Bath and Highland Counties of Virginia. The district is bisected north to south by US 220 north of Interstate 64 and east to west by Virginia Highway 39 west of Interstate 81. These roads cross at Warm Springs.
