on closures, safety alerts, fires, advisories and
restrictions.
From pre-Revolutionary War times through the New Deal Era, the lands that are now the Lee Ranger District have been steeped in history!
You can visit the same lands George Washington surveyed in the 1700s! Drive roads ridden by Stonewall Jackson or explore trails built by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
The Lee Ranger District is the national forest lands closest to Washington, D.C. We are located in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, between Front Royal and Harrisonburg, with acreage that extends into West Virginia. Access to the forest is easy from I-81, I-66, VA 55, US 211, and US 340.

Come explore this historic and beautiful place!
The Elizabeth Furnace Family
Campground and Day Use Area will
have reduced services during the
2008 summer season. Due to a faulty
water system the flush
toilet/shower buildings will be
closed as well as the dump station
and hydrants. There will be no
water in the Day-Use area. Campers
can get water from the hand-pump
located near the campground
entrance. Vault toilets will be
open in both the campground and the
picnic area. Reduced fees of $10.00
per night per site will be
collected. It is anticipated that
the water system will once again be
operational for the 2010 season. We
apologize for any inconvenience
this may cause.
Attention
OHV Trail Users: Every operator of an ATV, UTV, 4-wheel drive
vehicle, motorcycle or motorbike on trails and roads within the
Peters Mill Run and Taskers Gap OHV complex must possess a permit.
Permits cost $5.00 for a daily permit or $30.00 for an annual Permit
If you have any questions or concerns please call or email
the Lee Ranger District.
The Peters Mill Run and Taskers Gap
OHV Trails will be closed January
19, 2009 to March 16, 2009. In
future years, the trails will be closed every third Monday in January to the third Monday in March.
This short period of time will
provide much needed resource
protection by allowing the trail to
thaw and dry out without vehicle
traffic to cause additional break
up and erosion.
