Potential Wilderness Area Inventory and ReviewThese documents describe the inventory and evaluation of Potential Wilderness Areas.
Potential Wilderness Inventory Current Forest Plan Management Areas within Potential Wilderness Areas Potential Wilderness Area Evaluation DRAFT Sept 2008 Potential Wilderness Area Evaluation Tables DRAFT Sept 2008 (Excel spreadsheet) Comprehensive Evaluation ReportEnclosed is our draft of the Comprehensive Evaluation Report (CER). The CER is designed to evaluate current trends in social, economic and ecological conditions. This Report is a review of the Forest’s progress towards achieving the desired conditions identified in the 1993 Forest Plan. We reviewed monitoring information in the context of the issues used in the development of the 1993 Forest Plan. The CER is currently in draft form. It represents our first attempt at describing and evaluating the monitoring information to help determine what aspects of forest management might need to change. In many areas we have recommended changes based upon our review of the information. Now we are requesting feedback from the public on our draft evaluation and our recommendations. The draft CER will hopefully provide a starting point for you to think about changes. From our collaboration at these workshops we will finalize the CER and identify the priority areas that we will address in future workshops as we revise the Forest Plan. Comprehensive Evaluation Report Documents Revised Forest Plan – Under Construction - 2009Enclosed is the Forest Plan Set of Documents. As documents are drafted (and revised) they will be posted here.
Proposed Forest Plan – Initial Working Copy Version 1 – February 2007Enclosed is an initial version of the proposed Forest Plan for the George Washington National Forest. There is no requirement for an initial version of the proposed plan to be prepared at this early stage of the revision process. However, the new planning regulations have made substantial changes in the format and design of forest plans. The Plan will be quite different from the current Forest Plan. It will be more strategic in nature; there will not be as much detail. It will not have management areas like the 1993 Forest Plan. It will have guidelines to help in project development rather than standards. Since the plan will be quite different, we wanted to give some indication of what the revised plan will look like. We believe that this will help everyone as we go through the process. We want to emphasize that the purpose of the initial version is to provide some context for working through the revision process. This initial version incorporates much of the 1993 Forest Plan along with some modifications that reflect new information from the Jefferson Forest Plan and some additional information developed during our drafting of the CER.
