Forest Service Implements Consolidation of Staunton and Harrisonburg Offices

As part of an ongoing effort to streamline processes and achieve greater financial efficiencies, while maintaining quality public service, the George Washington & Jefferson National Forest has consolidated the Deerfield District office in Staunton with the Dry River District office in Harrisonburg . Effective June 5 th, the Staunton office will close to the public. All public services currently provided at the Staunton office will continue to be available at the office located in Harrisonburg . The name of the consolidated Ranger Districts is changed to the “North River Ranger District.”

Forest maps, general forest information, firewood and rock permits are available at the Harrisonburg office or by calling (540) 432-0187. Firewood permits are also available by mail. The Harrisonburg office is in the process of establishing a 1-800 number to better serve customers. This number will soon be operational.

The Harrisonburg office is located at 401 Oakwood Drive , Harrisonburg , VA 22801 . From I-81 take Exit 240 (Bridgewater/Mt. Crawford exit) onto State Route 257 West/Frieden’s Church Road . Go to the second traffic light and turn onto US Hwy. 11 North/Valley Pike Road. At the next traffic light, turn left onto State Route 704 ( Oakwood Drive ).
