Laurel Wilt - Photo GalleryAmbrosia beetlesThe redbay ambrosia beetle (RAB), Xyleborus glabratus , is the only known vector of the laurel wilt fungus. However a variety of ambrosia beetles including RAB infest diseased redbay and other plants in the laurel family (Lauraceae). Photos included in this section either depict evidence of ambrosia beetle activity (frass tubes, galleries, etc.), show monitoring techniques, or illustrate characteristics of adult beetles commonly found in the wood of laurel wilt hosts. Positive identification of ambrosia beetles may need to be made by experts; however excellent keys for identifying Xyleborini ambrosia beetles in America north of Mexico are available on the website at: http://xyleborini.tamu.edu/public/site/scolytinae/home .
