Long Cane Hiking Opportunities

Fell Camp

Located in the northern part of the Long Cane Ranger District, Fell Camp is primarily used by hunters and equestrians. In addition to 66 Hiking/Barry Nehr photocampsites situated on 15 acres, it offers other recreational opportunities such as biking, hiking and birding. (Click here for more information.)

 

Forks Area Trail

Located in the southern portion of the Long Cane Ranger District, the Forks Area Trail (FATS) was designed with the mountain biking enthusiast in mind. Six stacked loops accessed from various locations, provide up to 34 miles of hiking or biking through a variety of topography and vegetation. (Click here for more information.)

 

Horn Creek Trail

This scenic 5.7 mile biking and hiking trail is located in the southeastern portion of the Long Cane Ranger District and features four access points. Many visitors begin their trip at Lick Fork Lake Recreation Area which offers camping, picnicking, swimming, fishing and boating. (Click here for more information.)

 

Lick Fork Lake Hiking Trail

The Lick Fork Lake Hiking Trail is located in the Lick Fork Lake Recreation Area on the southeastern portion of the Long Cane Ranger District. As you traverse the picturesque woods surrounding the lake, you will encounter a boulder crossing, mixed hardwood and pine canopies as well as a variety of wild flowers that flourish along the trail. Long Cane Horse Trail

The Long Cane Horse Trail is located in the northern part of the Long Cane Ranger District. This 26.7-mile loop trail winds through the pines and hardwoods of the Long Cane Scenic Area and passes the largest Shagbark Hickory tree in the United States. A historic cemetery and the original “Charleston Road” enhance the visitor experience. (Click here for more information.)

 

Parson's Mountain Lake and Tower Trails 

Located in the northern portion of the Long Cane Ranger District, the linear Tower and Lake Trails at the Parson’s Mountain Recreation Area intersect and allow hikers to choose the length of their trip. (Click here for more information.)

 

Price's Bottom

Price’s Bottom serves as an access point for multiple activities including hiking, biking and canoeing. The Turkey-Stevens Canoe Trail access at the Price’s Bottom parking lot is approximately midway between Hwy 283 and Modoc Bridge. The historic Key Bridge serves as a gateway to the Wine-Turkey Trail. Modoc Trail can also be utilized from this area. (Click here for more information.)

 

Wine-Turkey and Modoc Trails

These trails are located in the southeastern part of the Long Cane Ranger District. Visitors enjoy the option of riding the 12-mile Wine-Turkey Trail, the 5.5 mile Modoc Trail or exploring them all on the same day.The renovation of the historic Key Bridge allows access to both Wine-Turkey and Modoc Trails from the parking area at Price’s Bottom.
