Cave Run Non-Motorized Trails InitiativeThe Cumberland Ranger District of the Daniel Boone National Forest initiated a process on January 31, 2008 called the Cave Run Non-motorized Trails Initiative. The initiative is intended to bring together various non-motorized trail users to work in a collaborative manner to develop a consensus proposal for the improvement of the trail system around the Cave Run Lake area. The trail system surrounding Cave Run Lake has experienced a tremendous increase in use over the past several years. Initially these trails were designed and constructed for foot-travel only, but most of the current users are equestrian and bicycling enthusiasts. As a result of increased use, user conflicts and accelerated maintenance needs are occurring.
