Recreation Opportunity GuidesWhat is a Recreation Opportunity Guide (ROG)? Recreation Opportunity Guides (ROGS) are letter-sized information sheets about trails and recreation sites such as campgrounds and picnic areas. The front page of the ROG will tell you how to get there, what facilities are available, if a fee is required, contact information, safety tips, historic information and much more. Trail ROGS give information on trailhead location, trail length, USGS quad name, county name, hiking difficulty, trail surface, connections and restrictions. The back page of the ROG has a map of the area or trail. (see images below for sample). We encourage you to download them and print them from your computer, but black and white paper copies are available at Forest Service offices and visitor centers. If you know the area you will be in or the recreation activity you want to pursue, you can print out these ROGS in pdf format from this website. London, Stearns and Redbird District have their ROGS available online. We hope to have Cumberland District ROGS online soon. Until then, they are available in paper format at the District Offices and the Supervisor's Office in Winchester. If you have problems downloading the ROGS, or a link is broken, or you notice a mistake in the ROG, please contact Gwen Hensley at gbhensley@yahoo.com. Be sure to specify the name of the ROG and the URL of the page the link is on.
