Friday’s programs are for school groups by prior arrangement; contact Tressa Brown at 502-564-7005, Ext. 125. Saturday’s programs are for the general public. Have you ever wondered what life was like in Kentucky a thousand years ago? Then join us at Red River Gorge to watch the past come alive as craftsmen demonstrate the way ancient cultures went about the daily business of living. The weekend’s events will be held on an open terrace near Gladie Creek, similar to sites inhabited by Kentucky’s first people. This enjoyable program of outdoor activities is designed to promote an understanding of the technologies that Native Americans used in the area, and the appreciation and protection of Kentucky's fragile archaeological sites. You can learn about: • Atlatl/Spear Demonstration • Bow/Arrow Making • Native Cooking & Medicine • Native Fire Building • Baskets & Weaving • Pottery Making • Hide Tanning • Stone Axe/Celt • Flint Knapping • Cattail Mats • Blowguns/Darts For more information contact: Daniel Boone National Forest Directions: from Lexington, take I-64 east to exit 98 (Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway, #402); take the parkway to exit 33 (Slade exit); then turn left at the junction of KY 11/15. Go 1.5 miles west on KY 15 to KY 77, and follow the signs.
