Cumberland District Events

Campground programs are offered most Saturdays from Memorial Day to Labor Day at each of the Forest Service campgrounds on the Cumberland Ranger District. In the Cave Run Lake area programs are offered at Twin Knobs and Zilpo Campgrounds. In the Red River Gorge area, programs are offered at Koomer Ridge Campground. Living Archaeology Weekend
September 24, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The past comes to life with this unique event in the heart of the Red River Gorge. Demonstrators from around the region show visitors how to flint knap, tan hides, throw spears with an atlatl, make blowgun darts, fire pottery and many other skills from pre-historic and historic times.  Sept 23 is for registered 5th grade students. Sept 24 is open to everyone.
  
Wildland Firefighter Exhibition

October 8, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Learn all about wildland fires with Forest Service firefighters.  Meet Smokey Bear, try on firefighter gear and check out the fire engine. Learn all about fire, how to use fire safely and what you can do to prevent wildland fires.
