Permits required in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness: Self-issue, non-limiting permits are available at the Alpine Lakes Wilderness trailheads on the Lake Wenatchee Ranger District (Lake Ethel and White Pine Creek). The Enchantments area of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness on the Leavenworth Ranger District limits overnight use with a quota permit system.
Campfires are Prohibited in some areas:
-
Campfires are prohibited above 5,000 feet east of the Cascade divide and above 4,000 feet west of the Cascade divide at all destinations within the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. This includes Lake Julius, Lake Ethel, Lake Donald, Loch Eileen, Grace Lakes, and Frosty Pass on the Lake Wenatchee Ranger District.
-
Campfires are also prohibited at Lake Sally Ann, Lake Minotaur, Theseus Lake, Lake Valhalla, Heather Lake, and Glasses Lake in the Henry M. Jackson Wilderness. This rule is designed to protect the scenic alpine snags and weathered logs in the alpine environments. Years of use have depleted ground firewood supplies in many areas. Use of gas stoves, instead of campfires, is strongly recommended in all Wilderness areas.
Pack and Saddle Animals:
-
Please keep horses 200 feet away from lakes. All lakes have a 200 foot zone where grazing, tethering, and camping with pack and saddle animals are prohibited. This helps protect water purity and shoreline vegetation. Avoid wet or boggy areas as stock grazing sites.
-
Please use highlines and hobbles to constrain stock...dont tie stock to trees! In the Alpine Lakes Wilderness it is illegal to tie stock to trees for more than 30 minutes without hobbling the front feet of the animal. Use hobbles and highlines when constraining stock overnight.
-
Use processed stock feed only. Hay and unprocessed grains are prohibited. This helps prevent the introduction of non-native weed and grain plants in Wilderness.
