KNOW BEFORE YOU GO OFF-ROADING !

It's your responsibility to know the rules and regulations
before you arrive to go Camping and Off-Roading.

I will list a few basics everyone should always know before heading to the Cle Elum Ranger District. We will be adding pages soon to this website describing the Campgrounds and Trailheads and what they have to offer and what is required.

Basics

1. Always get an ORV map. It will show whose land you are on in Kittitas County and the rules of the different public lands. Some examples are: On Forest Service lands you can only Off-Road on designated trails open to your use. On Department of Fish And Wildlife lands there are no trails but you can operate your non-street legal ORV on the signed Green Dot Roads.
So get the map and Know Before You Go!

The Cle Elum ORV map is now available online and also at the Cle Elum Ranger Station.

2. You Must Have current ORV tags (or) be Street licensed to operate on public lands.

3. You Must be Street Legal to operate on Forest Service Roads.
This means having a motorcycle endorsement, and your ORV meeting state laws for highway use.

Note: The Washington State Patrol has street licensed some motorcycles that in the past have been for OFF-ROAD use only. If you bring one of these motorcycles it would help us and you if you carried a photo copy of your registration and or title.

4. You will need a Forest Service Approved Spark Arrestor in good working condition.

5. Your muffler sound level must be below 105 decibels. 105 decibels is state law but is very loud ! Please try to lower that decibel level and help preserve the sport !

6. You will need to know if there is a fee required for where you camp-out or the trailhead you park & unload at. Most require a Northwest Forest Pass and a few are concessionaire-operated. Call the Front Desk and ask them what is required. 509-852-1100 ext. 1

7. You will need to check the trail update section of this website to see if the trails you plan to ride are logged out, snow free, passable, special closures, etc.
