5/6/93	Decision Notice - Exempts the Indianberry Salvage and rehabilitation project from certain standards, to facilitate restoration work.
2/14/96	Decision Notice - Revision No. 1. This documents the Forest Service d ecision to revise the original Decision Notice and FONSI signed on May 6, 1993 to include Forest Plan Amendment #12.
9/7/93	Decision Notice - Changes were made to further clarify the management objectives for the North Fork John Day Wild & Scenic River and to define boundaries.
12/13/93	Decision Notice - Changes were made to further clarify the management objectives for the Grande Ronde Wild & Scenic River and to define boundaries.
3/30/94	Updates the Forest Plan by adding Appendix D (Prescribed Natural Fire Implementation Process) to clarify the national implementation intent. Because this appendix only provides updated direction and will result in no new environmental effects, no NEPA documentation was required.
5/20/94	Decision Notice - Implementation of the Eastside Interim Direction EA - Amends the Forest Plan to implement short-term direction needed to maintain options for old growth related and other species while a complete analysis is developed as part of the Eastside EIS.
2/6/95	Record of Decision - East End Salvage and Restoration Projects FEIS - Changes a corridor along the Blue Mountain Scenic Byway from A-1 to A-4 to allow greater flexibility in managing the area as a scenic travel corridor. Also reallocates 148 acres of existing old growth habitat as C1 to replace an unsuitable stand currently allocated as C1.

6/1/98	Decision Notice - Management Area Designations were made in the Cliffhanger Timber Sale EA
11/5/98	Decision Notice - The Abla Timber Sale and Fuel Reduction Project EA changed the Forest Plan amendment area from A3 to A4 along portions of Forest Road 6403 to give greater flexibility in constructing a fuel break.
6/12/00	Decision Notice - Adjusted the boundary of a C1 Dedicated Old Growth area in the Eden Timber Sale and Fire Reintroduction Project EA
6/16/03	Record of Decision - Tower Fire Project EIS
4/30/04	Decision Notice - Changed the HEI required by the Forest Plan for the Monument Winter Range from 70 to 67. This change only affected the area of the Bologna Basin Salvage Project for the duration of that project.
5/13/04	Decision Notice - As part of the Pedro/Colt Decision, C1 boundaries were adjusted, moving them away from system roads and C3 was changed to C4.
7/9/04	Record of Decision - Heppner - Changed HEI standard in the Monument C3 management area from 70 to 67 for the duration of the Rimrock project.
7/8/05	Decision Notice - Walla Walla - Within the Timothy Lynx Analysis Unit of the Lower Sheep Timber sale, amend Forest Plan that adds management direction (objectives, standards, & guidelines) for Canada Lynx.
10/11/05	Record of Decision - Region 6 - All National Forests in Region are released from direction for unwanted, non-native vegetation in the 1988 ROD for Managing Competing/Unwanted Veg and Mediated Agreement, 1989. New desired, future condition, goals/objectives, standards, inventory and monitoring frameworks are implemented.
12/30/05	Record of Decision - Pomeroy - Within the Upper Charley subwatershed, amend Forest Plan that adds management direction (objectives, standards & guidelines) for Canada Lynx
2/23/06	Decision Notice - Heppner - Changed HEI standard in the Monument C3 management area from 70 to 69 for the duration of the Sunflower Bacon project.
8/14/06	Record of Decision - Pomeroy - School Fire Recovery amends Forest Plan that adds management direction for Canada Lynx; amend to replace four C1 dedicated old growth units that no longer function as old growth habitat due to fire loss.
6/11/07	Record of Decision - Pomeroy - School Fire Recovery amends Forest Plan that modifies the Eastside Screens wildlife standard at 6d.(2)(a) to define both live and dead trees to clarify the appeal court's definition from the dictionary.
7/29/08	Decision Notice - Pomeroy - Wenaha Breaks Research Natural Area (RNA) amends Forest Plan from "proposed RNA" to "established RNA" status.
8/1/08	Decision Notice - Walla Walla - Loon Fuels Reduction Project amends Forest Plan (TM-1, FM-1, RA-2) that allows danger tree and fuel management actions with the Little Phillips Creek RHCA.

 

Planning Rule News Release

FOREST PLAN REVISION

NFMA (National Forest Management Act) requires each National Forest to develop a Forest Plan and update or revise it when conditions have significantly changed, or at least every 15 years. The Forest Plans for the Malheur, Umatilla, and Wallowa-Whitman National Forests are being revised to incorporate new information, current science, and changed conditions.

SCHEDULE OF PROPOSED ACTIVITIES

The Forest publishes a quarterly Schedule of Proposed Activities which provides project descriptions, status, and contacts.

INVASIVE PLANTS TREATMENT EIS

The Umatilla National Forest proposes to control, contain, or eradicate invasive plants on nearly 25,000 acres. These plants have the potential to displace or alter native plant communities and cause long-lasting economic and ecological problems within and outside the National Forests.

ECOSYSTEM AND ROADS ANALYSIS

Ecosystem Analysis at the Watershed Scale is the process used by the Umatilla National Forest to characterize the historic and current biotic and abiotic conditions for individual watersheds. The understanding gained from ecosystem analysis is critical for helping to sustain the health and resilience of natural resources administered on behalf of the American people.

Roads Analysis Report - This report provides decision-makers with critical information to develop road systems that are safe and responsive to public needs and desires, are affordable and efficiently managed, have minimal negative ecological effects on the land, and are in balance with available funding for needed management actions.

NORTH FORK JOHN DAY WILD & SCENIC RIVER MANAGEMENT PLAN

The Oregon Omnibus Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1988 placed the North Fork John Day River into the National Wild and Scenic Rivers system, to be managed according to the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1968.
