Big Tree Program

Western White Pine

The Umatilla National Forest's Big Tree Program is part of a national effort to locate, measure, and recognize the largest individual trees of each species. The nominator(s) of a big tree is recognized with a certificate and a t-shirt, and a yellow placard is attached to the tree so that others will know it is registered in the Umatilla National Forest’s Big-Tree Program.

HISTORICAL REFERENCE DOCUMENTS

The Umatilla National Forest silviculture library includes an archives containing a variety of historical reference materials. Many of these reports, maps, and photographs pertain to the entire Blue Mountains, not just the Umatilla National Forest portion as national forest boundaries changed over time. These materials are gradually being converted to an electronic format, many of which are now available on this web site.
