Marys Peak
Marys Peak, at 4,097 feet, is the highest point in Oregon’s Coast Range and the most prominent peak to the west of Corvallis. On a clear day, from the top of the peak, you can see both the Pacific Ocean to the west and many of the Cascade peaks to the east across the Willamette Valley. There are also several areas of historical, botanical and geological interest. Marys Peak Road ~ Closure
Status Directions: Follow Highway 34 west from Philomath for 10 miles then turn north from Highway 34 onto Marys Peak Road. In 5.5 miles you will reach Conner’s Camp, the Lower East Ridge trailhead location. Meadow Edge Trail is located 3.3 miles beyond Conner’s Camp at the Marys Peak campground. The upper trailhead from East Ridge and North Ridge is located at the end of Marys Peak Road, 0.5 miles beyond the Marys Peak campground. Campgrounds and trails in the Marys Peak area:
Winter RecreationWhen there's snow (not every winter), cross country skiing, snowshoeing and other non-motorized winter recreation are available beyond the gate at Conner's Camp. A recreation pass is required to park in the Conner’s Camp parking area. Trail Access in WinterWhen the Marys Peak Road gates are closed due to snow, you will not be able to reach the Meadowedge, Summit, or Tie Trail trailheads. Access to the East Ridge trailhead (takes off from Conner's Camp below the lower gate) is unaffected by the gate closures. You will still need to check road conditions to see if you can reach Conner's Camp. North Ridge trail is accessed from Highway 20 which is at a lower elevation and less affected by winter weather. In all cases, even if you can reach a trailhead, trail access may be limited by snow as you hike farther and higher. Please check conditions before taking off and be prepared for winter weather. Marys Peak Road & Gate ClosuresMarys Peak Road ~ Closure
Status Marys Peak Road closes for winter from the first major snowfall until road is snow free (typically from late November through March) at the Lower Gate (milepost 5.5 at Conner's Camp) and/or the Upper Gate (milepost 7.9). Depending on weather and road conditions, the Lower Gate is sometimes opened during the winter. The Upper Gate is closed all season. Why is the road gated and not plowed?
Scenic Botanical AreaMarys Peak has been designated a Scenic Botanical Area because of its rich, unique scenery and plants. Wildflower displays in the meadow and rock gardens change throughout the late spring and summer months. The rich rolling meadows of Marys Peak are fringed by a unique Noble fir forest. You can see peaks of the Cascade Mountains to the east, and, on a clear day, the Pacific Ocean to the west. Vistas include the grand Willamette Valley and the more intimate valleys and slopes of the Coast Range.
