Where can I ride?

About half of the area that comprises the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is open to motorized vehicles. Three main areas listed below offer riding opportunities and camping and staging areas. However, it is just as important to know where you can't ride .

Please refer to the MAPS in the section on each riding area.

Check for reservations early and before heading out.

Sand Camping Program

- Effective January 1, 2006 -

Recreation passes are not valid for sand camping. Campsite fees are $10/night for standard sites and $20/night for group sites.

OHVs are a great way to combine America’s love of motor vehicles with the love of the outdoors. To make your time in the outdoors safe as well as entertaining, you need to know the laws governing OHV use on public land. The cornerstone of any outdoor recreation activity is respect: respect for yourself; respect for others and respect for the environment. MORE

OHV Sand Camping Program ~

Camping allowed only in designated sites

  • Sites limited to 5 highway vehicles/20 people

  • Some double capacity sites will be available by reservation only

  • Sites for the summer season area available through www.recreation.gov link goes offsite

In addition to reservations, at the Oregon Dunes NRA, a sand camping permit and a site fee is required to sand camp. Recreation passes are no longer valid for sand camping. See How Do I Choose and Register for a Site? on our Sand Camping page for information on sand camping permits. The sand camping permits are available at entry corridor fee stations.

Contact the Oregon Dunes NRA additional information. For current information contact the Oregon Dunes NRA Visitor’s Center at (541) 271-3611). And remember-all vehicles operating off pavement are required to have a current Oregon OHV permit and red flag.
