The Forest is launching a project to designate OHV riding routes in upland areas of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area as called for in the 1994 Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area Management Plan.

First step in the process was forming a public working group to help recommend designated off-highway vehicle routes in the upland portions of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.

Public Working Group

The Siuslaw National Forest, Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area (ODNRA) has selected volunteers to serve on an OHV Designated Routes Working Group.  The group consists of 10-15 members, representing the following interests: 

  • Organized OHV user groups

  • Outfitters/guide businesses

  • Fish and wildlife advocates

  • Tribal representatives

  • State ATV fund representative

  • Unaffiliated OHV users

  • Mushroom pickers

  • Conservation groups

  • Local community leaders

  • Unaffiliated general public

 

Process Timeline – The working group will begin work in October 2009, and participate in six meetings and four field trips over a 9-10 month period, completing their work in June of 2010.

Purpose of Working Group – To represent a diverse set of interests in the Recreation Area, serve as a forum to discuss issues and opportunities, and develop specific recommendations for OHV designated routes for consideration by ODNRA managers.
