November 13, 2009: Noxious Weed Removal Starts at South Jetty
The Siuslaw National Forest, working with contractor Cascade Brush Clearing, started work mowing 35 acres of Scotch broom in the South Jetty area South of Florence today.
November 13, 2009: Marys Peak Road Closes at West Point Gate
Snow and icy conditions on the road to the top of Marys Peak prompted Forest officials to close the gate at West Point citing concerns for public safety. The seasonal road closure, which was initiated in 2000, used to run between December 1 and March 31.
November 13, 2009: Christmas Tree Permits for Sale
Christmas tree permits will be available November 23 from the Siuslaw National Forest. Permits cost $5.00 each, which allows the permit holder to cut one tree for personal use.
October 21, 2009: OHV Designated Routes Working Group Meeting and Field Visit
A field tour and meeting for the Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Designated Routes Working Group for the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area (Oregon Dunes) will be held on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7.
October 14, 2009: Siuslaw National Forest Fire Management to Begin Fall Burning
Fire Managers on the Siuslaw National Forest have started to conduct fall pile burnings. The public could experience smoky conditions within the Siuslaw National Forest.
October 8, 2009: Public Tours of Tamara Quays - Restored Marsh within the Salmon River Estuary
The Siuslaw National Forest, in partnership with Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board, the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the Salmon Drift Creek Watershed Council, invite the public to celebrate the restoration of the 40-acre Tamara Quays area of the Salmon River estuary on Saturday, October 17th.
October 8, 2009: Cape Perpetua Cape Cove Trail Closed for Reconstruction
Contractors began reconstruction on Monday of the popular Cape Cove Trail which runs from the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center, located just south of Yachats, to the coastal terrace trails just west of Highway 101.
October 1, 2009: Restricted OHV Riding in Sensitive Plan Communities at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area
The Siuslaw National Forest is implementing a Forest Closure Order that went into affect August 18, prohibiting off-highway vehicle (OHV) use from posted areas immediately adjacent to Beale, Snag and Horsfall lakes to protect plant, fish and wildlife habitat.
September 29, 2009: Trees Placed in National Forest Streams to Improve Aquatic Habitat
During the first two weeks of October helicopters are planning to place large trees into seven streams located within the Siuslaw National Forest with intent to improve fish habitat.
September 23, 2009: Siuslaw Resource Advisory Committee Recommends 2010 Projects
By recommending thirty two projects on September 17, members of the Siuslaw Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) put $1.2 million towards national forest management for 2010, according to forest officials.
September 16, 2009: Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area Working Group Meeting and Field Visit
A meeting and field tour for the off-highway vehicle (OHV) Designated Routes Working Group for the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area (NRA) will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2009.
September 15, 2009: Cape Perpetua Moves To Off-Season Hours
The Cape Perpetua Visitor Center be open daily 10 a.m-4 p.m beginning Sunday, September 20th. The center will stay open until 5:30 on Saturdays until October 10th, when closing hours will shift to 4 p.m. daily.
September 15, 2009: Siuslaw Resource Advisory Committee Meets to Select $1.3 Million in Natural Resource Projects for 2010
Members of the Siuslaw Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) will meet September 17 in Corvallis to recommend approximately $1.3 million for fiscal year 2010 projects intended to improve natural resource on public lands in seven Western Oregon counties.

Personal use firewood permits will be sold to the general public beginning 8:00 a.m. on Monday October 5, 2009 at the Hebo Ranger District Office.

The Cape Perpetua Visitor Center staff invites you to learn more about the native forest and shore birds found near Cape Perpetua during their Birdwatching Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, September 5th and 6th.
September 3, 2009: Siuslaw National Forest to Receive Road and Watershed Improvement Funds
The Siuslaw National Forest will receive $609,000 of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds to maintain and repair roads and bridges, decommission and store roads, and upgrade culverts to enhance drainage in watersheds.
September 3, 2009: USDA Secretary Vilsack Announces Economic Recovery Projects for Siuslaw National Forest
The Siuslaw National Forest will receive $5.32 million for facilities and trails work through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) for Forest Facilities and Trails as announced by Secretary Tom Vilsack.
August 18, 2009: Teresa Raaf Named as Interim Siuslaw National Forest Supervisor
Teresa Raaf has been selected as the interim Forest Supervisor for the Siuslaw National Forest filling in behind Barnie Gyant who recently accepted the position of Deputy Director of Ecosystem Management in Vallejo, CA, Forest Service officials announced today.

People interested in helping recommend designated off-highway vehicle routes in the upland portions of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area (NRA) of the Siuslaw National Forest are encouraged to be a part of a public working group.

July 29, 2009: Forest Changes Industrial Fire Precaution Levels
Due to increasing temperatures along the Oregon Coast and throughout the West, the Forest has moved to an Industrial Fire Precaution Level II.
July 29, 2009: Abandoned Campfires Keep Fire Crews Busy
A quarter-acre fire near Sutton Campground was reported to the Siuslaw National Forest around noon Monday. Oregon Department of Forestry’s Western Lane Unit was first to respond to the fire.

May 28, 2009: Free Fishing Event at Hebo Lake
Children are invited to visit Hebo Lake on Saturday, June 6 for a day of fishing and other fun activities as part of the National "Free Fishing Weekend."

The Forest Service recently released the Travel Management Plan Final Environmental Analysis (Final EA) and Decision Notice for the Siuslaw National Forest.

Employees from Siuslaw National Forest celebrated Earth Day by holding
the first annual Earth Day forest clean up event by removing trash dumped
at various recreations sites across the forest.

Warmer spring weather conditions have allowed the recreation staff of
the Siuslaw National Forest to open the gates leading to the summit at
the top of Marys Peak.

March 26, 2009: Fee Increase at Sand Lake and
Hebo Lake
In an effort to improve the facilities and services provided, camping fees
have increased at Sand Lake Recreation Area and Hebo Lake Campground.
