Field Guides & Identification Keys
Field guides and identification keys are tools that biologists and botanists can use to assist in identifying species by reviewing species ranges, key suitable habitats they may occupy, and key identifying characteristics.
There are many field guides to various taxa and identification keys produced by university researchers, institutes, and dedicated amateurs. Yet some of our special status and sensitive species have had little attention and lack basic identification information compiled into one document. Occasionally, when an opportunity and need arises for a particular taxa group, the Interagency Special Status/Sensitive Species Inventory Program will support development of a field guide or identification key, which will be made available here.
