Two Color
Guard Station - Oregon
Wallowa-Whitman National Forest
The
crystal clear waters of the Wild and Scenic Eagle Creek work their
way through the mountains in a series of small waterfalls and white
water rapids to the valley floor. Subalpine fire and white bark pine
stand guard, as the creek winds through flood-plain meadows. Look for
blue-green pools and dramatic rock formations scattered along the creek's
path. Sit on a sun-warmed boulder and watch a squat gray dipper bob
up and down on the rocks, peering into the water for a quick meal.
This is the backyard of the Two Color Guard Station, a secluded lodge
surrounded by rugged mountains, far away from the sights and sounds
of others.

History
The Civilian Conversation Corps originally constructed the Two Color Guard
Station in the 1930s, and was used as crew quarters and bunkhouse. The original
building built by the CCC was removed in 1976. A new guard station was built
in 1959.
Description
The guard station is more than a cabin in the woods, it's a small
lodge. It has a spectacular view from the back porch with a large riparian
meadow extending towards Eagle Creek. Inside, the cabin is comfortably furnished
with a table and chairs, couches, and enough beds to accommodate twelve people.
It is equipped with propane lights, a propane cook stove and oven, refrigerator
and heating stove, as well as cookware, place settings and most cooking utensils.
During the summer months, potable water is available in the kitchen, and
running water is available in the bathroom for the flush toilet and shower.
During the winter, potable water is not available, and visitors must bring
plenty for drinking, cooking and washing. The indoor bathroom is also closed
during the winter, and an outhouse is available.

Eagle Cap Wilderness (2
