Umatilla National Forest
Construction Alert!
April 14, 2010
Major reconstruction and remodeling projects are planned this summer for most of the recreation rentals on the Umatilla National Forest. Work is scheduled to begin in late summer 2010 and could continue sporadically until October 2011. Projects include a variety of inside and outside construction activities, such as painting, foundation work and roofing.
Some facilities will even get new water systems. At these locations, water may be periodically shut off. Electricity might also be interrupted for short periods of time at those sites equipped with power. Construction equipment may be on site and the ground around some of the cabins may be disturbed. Construction could involve periodic noise, dust and potential hazards for children or pets.
Unfortunately, we may have as little as one week's notice before the contractor begins on-site work which may result in the need to cancel reservations with little warning. We recognize that construction will be very inconvenient and suggest you contact the appropriate Ranger District, one to two weeks before your visit to confirm whether construction will be active during your stay.
We apologize, in advance, for any disruption this reconstruction activity may cause. We encourage you to be patient with us as these structures are repaired and preserved for the future. This is an exciting opportunity to protect these historic cabins.
The funding for this reconstruction is made possible by President Obama's economic recovery package.
