ICBEMP Information
The ICBEMP website has a variety of information that is available for easy access by the field units and publics. The website can be found at www.icbemp.gov
EIS Information
The Draft EIS, Supplemental Draft EIS and Final EIS are available on-line and for download at www.icbemp.gov/eis/eis_doc.shtml. The documents are available as adobe acrobat pdf files.
The subbasin review guide volumes 1 and 2 are also on-line at www.icbemp.gov/implement/subbas.shtml
Science Information
Peer-reviewed manuscripts
The Science Team of the Interior Columbia Basin Ecosystem Management project has published 117 peer-reviewed manuscripts primarily in the form of books, conference proceedings, and as mainstream journal articles during the time period of 1994 - 2001. Among these publications is an enormous wealth of information on the ecology of the aquatic and upland landscapes (including wildfire, wildlife, fisheries, insects and disease), as well as the social and economic aspects within the complex ecosystem of the ICBEMP project area. Our continuing goal for the scientific assessment is to make the information understandable, accessible, and useful.
Many of these documents are PNW publications and some are peer reviewed journal articles. The project website has a listing of all the PNW publications and a link to the PNW website at www.icbemp.gov/science. Many of the PNW publications from ICBEMP are available electronically from their website. Copies can be ordered through Diane Smith at desmith@fs.fed.us
A database of the 117 publications has been developed to provide, not only a list of all publications, but also an easily searchable format for user's to find pertinent information of their particular interest. The database was developed using ProCite 5.01 and contains the abstract of all articles as well as keywords. In addition to the downloadable ProCite database, there is a tab delimited text file for users of other software. This database is available for download as Procite and as a tab-delimited file for import into other programs. This information is available at www.icbemp.gov/science/reference.shtml
A list of ICBEMP references including key words and abstract from the reference manager database is also available electronically on-line. This list is sorted alphabetically by author and includes a unique reference id number. Three additional summaries are included to list the manuscripts (by the unique id number) by author, by keyword and by major group.
This information will be updated periodically as additional ICBEMP related manuscripts are published. Questions regarding this information or problems downloading these databases should be directed to bgravenmier@fs.fed.us:
Evaluation of the Supplemental Draft EIS
The Science Advisory Group (SAG) Effects Analysis for the Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement (SDEIS) Alternatives draft document, dated March 2000, is available for public viewing and downloading. This draft document has not been published. It is an administrative record on file with the project. This evaluation was used by the EIS Team to compile chapter 4, Environmental Consequences, for the Supplemental Draft EIS dated March 2000. The document is divided into approximately 400 pdf files that are linked together. In order to view the document, you must have the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software installed on your computer. This document can be viewed or downloaded from www.icbemp.gov/sag/sagzips.shtml
Science Contract Reports
Science Contract Reports were prepared by University scientists through cooperative agreement, project science staff, or contractors as part of the science efforts of the Interior Columbia Basin Ecosystem Management Project. They were prepared for the express purpose of compiling information, reviewing available literature, researching topics related to ecosystems within the Interior Columbia Basin, or exploring relationships among biophysical and economic/social resources.
These reports have been
reviewed by agency scientists as part of the ongoing ecosystem project, and
have been cited within the primary publications produced by the project.
These reports may become the basis for scientific journal articles or technical
reports by the USDA Forest Service or USDI Bureau of Land Management. The
contract reports have not been through all the steps appropriate to final
publishing as either scientific journal articles or technical reports.
The contract reports are provided on-line in electronic format for convenience. Efforts were made to provide this information as accurately and completely as possible, but errors in the electronic files may still exist. The contract reports are available on-line at www.icbemp.gov/science/scanned.html.
Availability of GIS and Databases
More than 300 different Geographic Information System (GIS) data layers or themes were compiled or created in support of the ICBEMP assessment and development of the EIS. In addition numerous databases were created. This data is available for download from this web site. U.S. Forest Service PNW Research Station serves as custodian of the project data. The data on this web site is an archive of the project data. For questions regarding project data, contact Becky Gravenmier at (503)808-2851 or bgravenmier@fs.fed.us.
All data are packaged as both Unix-based compressed (.tar.z) and PC-based executable (.exe) files. The .tar.z and .exe file packages contain one of the following:
- Spatial data files Both vector and raster data are packaged as ArcInfo export files. Smaller spatial datasets usually comprise one ArcInfo export file (.e00). Larger spatial datasets may have multiple ArcInfo export files (e00, e01, e02, ...). When multiple ArcInfo export files exist, they all must be present to import the spatial data into ArcInfo or ArcView.
- Attribute files Attribute files are packaged in dBASE IV (.dbf)
format.
- Database files Databases are packaged in both dBASE IV (.dbf)
and Paradox (.db) format.
All files within compressed .tar.z and .exe file packages follow the 8.3 naming convention to enable use on the Windows 3.1 operating system.
The project has compiled a CD-ROM set (series of five CD-ROMs) that includes digital versions of the spatial data, databases, metadata, and major scientific publication graphics compiled in support of the project. The large file size and scope of the data and information make it impractical for many users to obtain and download it from the project website. The data contained on this CD-ROM set is mostly uncompressed and can be readily used by the end user. This CD-ROM set can be requested from desmith@fs.fed.us after December 15, 2001
