Region 6 Partnerships & Volunteers“Great partnerships enable, empower, and encourage people to work together toward achieving success.” Partners. They’re invaluable to the Forest Service mission of caring for the land and serving people. ***NEW*** Partnerships and YVH Annual Report! Today and in the future, they are and will be even more important, so the agency is working hard to support an integrated, strategic, and above all, person-to-person approach to developing and maintaining partnerships of all sorts, for mutual benefits both short and long term. Four goals guide our work with partnerships. Briefly, they are building capacity to do work, benefiting communities, connecting with minorities and people with disabilities, and doing mission-related work through mutually beneficial agreements with partners. Of course, Forest Service partnerships come in many flavors, including grants and agreements, memoranda of understanding, volunteer, youth, and hosted programs; conservation education activities and Service First management agreements, special legal authorities, and more, so there are lots of things we can do together. However, there’s not an unlimited amount of time or money, so that’s where planning, relationship building, and paying attention to mutual interests comes in. Investing time and heart in our partners: While we will tend to manage our partnerships at the organizational level to help focus our time, commitment, and accountability practices where they make the most difference, we always remember that partnerships are at heart person-to-person relationships, and act accordingly.
