Ecosystem management is an approach to natural resource management which focuses on the broader landscape as it changes over time and space. Natural processes are the source of the goods and services we enjoy form forests. An ecosystem approach to land is a means of sustaining the health, diversity and productivity of the landscape on which we depend.
The goals of the Forest are to protect ecosystems, restore degraded ecosystems and provide multiple benefits to people within the capability of ecosystems. Achieving sustainable resource management requires cooperation and collaboration with scientists, managers and citizens.
The Olympic National Forest provides a broad range of products, from timber to floral greens as well as desirable services such as recreation and clean drinking water for nearby communities. Research, education and community development are also important aspects of the Olympic Forest.
