South Creek Trail 401

 

Access: From Twisp drive west on Okanogan County Road 9114. At about 12.5 miles the County Road joins Forest Service Road 44. Continue on FS Road 44, which becomes FS Road 4440 to South Creek Campground and Trailhead.

Route Description: Fairly easy hike with good views, but limited camping. First 4.5 miles are forest broken by avalanche paths. Louis Lake Trail 428 branches left at the 2-mile marker. You will travel through an old wildfire at 5.5 miles, then cross a stream at 7 miles. Then the trail becomes rocky before the last 0.25 mile to the pass. At the pass the trail enters the North Cascades National Park (park service permits required for camping).

Highlights: Occasional views. A good day trip for a family outting.
