Eightmile Road Reopens For Snowmobile Use
Contact:

Jennifer Zbyszewski, Acting District Ranger 509-996-4000

The Eightmile Road , Forest Road 5130, has re-opened to snowmobile use. Located eight miles north of Winthrop on the West Chewuch Road , this groomed loop route is popular with winter recreation enthusiasts.

Portions of the Eightmile snowmobile loop were closed earlier this winter to allow for safety while harvest activity was occurring on the Flat Earth Timber sale. A bypass interim route was also put in place during the harvest activity; it will no longer be groomed. The groomed snowmobile route, as shown on the Forest Travel Plan Map, is open for use.

The Flat Earth timber sale removed hazardous trees from campgrounds in the Eightmile area. It is part of the Methow Valley Ranger District's ongoing efforts to improve forest health by thinning trees to reduce the threat from wildland fire.

“Even with the low snow pack the interim groomed route was a success” said Jennifer Zbyszewski, the Methow Valley Acting District Ranger, “the District appreciates everyones cooperation and patience during this closure”.

For more information and maps of the Eightmile Road or the Flat Earth Timber sale, contact the Methow Valley Ranger District at 509-996-4000.
