The FHM program is a cooperative program that enables the early detection and evaluation of changes in forest health conditions on all ownerships. The Evaluation Monitoring (EM) component of the FHM program is designed to determine the extent, severity, and causes of undesirable changes in forest health identified through Detection Monitoring using aerial and ground surveys, permanent plots, and other means. Projects funded through EM delve into the extent, severity, and/or causes of forest health problems.
Results from all Evaluation Monitoring, Detection Monitoring, and Analysis Reporting projects are shared through annual posters at the FHM Work Group meeting held in late January or early February.
FY11 Evaluation Monitoring proposals from the West Coast FHM Region are due September 30, 2010 to Bruce Hostetler (Acting FHM Regional Coordinator).
For new or continuing proposals, contact your FHM Coordinator for your state for details about application procedures and deadlines:
Alaska: Tricia Wurtz (907-451-2799)
California & Hawaii: Lisa Fischer (530-759-1748)
Oregon & Washington: Bruce Hostetler (503-808-2976)
View the request for proposals, which includes proposal instructions. Your detailed budget should include matching funds or contributions (a 50% match is required), and anticipated travel costs to the annual FHM Work Group meeting to present your poster. Projects requesting $30,000 per year or less are favored. Contact your FHM Coordinator for early assistance in developing your proposal, or coordinating with others pursuing similar work.
Detection Monitoring projects do not have a separate proposal process. They are usually identified and selected from the Evaluation Monitoring proposals.
Proposals are evaluated using the following criteria:
