DFTM Early Warning System
Pheromone Trap Data

A network of Douglas-fir tussock moth pheromone traps is in place throughout the western US. These traps are monitored annually with the expectation that the number of moths caught in the traps will increase for several years prior to the onset of visible defoliation, thus giving land managers an early warning. Learn more about this Early Warning System, or view an overview of DFTM in the Pacfic Northwest.

The graphs shown below are products of this database.

OR & WA DFTM Pheromone Trap Catch Trends

After peaking in 2009, trap catches have declined sharply in 2010.

A summary table of data for Oregon and Washington from 1999-2010 is now available as an 18 page, 78K PDF file. This summary includes all 2010 data for Oregon and Washington and was last updated on December 2, 2010. Contact Kathy Sheehan (503-808-2674) for additional information.

Graphic displays of 1979 through 2010 data are available for the following National Forests and Reservations in Oregon and Washington. The 2010 data includes 91% of the expected 2010 traps, but high trap catches have not yet been verified. Each display includes data collected both on and nearby the Forest or Reservation.
