9. Catalpa Lake Trail, #535
Trail Use: Hiking SymbolHorseback Riding Symbol
Season: April - October
Length / Rating: 1.4 Miles. Easy.
Directions: Take Hwy. 26 east to Rd. 43 (2 miles east of Timothy Lake. Rd. 42). Turn left (north) on paved Rd. 43 for 3.5 miles to junction with Rd. 2610. Turn left (north) on gravel Rd. 2610 and after 3/4 mile continue straight ahead on 2610-250 for 2 miles to the trailhead. Off-road parking is available.
Description: This trail provides easy access to a small, secluded and peaceful lake surrounded by firs and hemlocks and a rocky, rugged butte on one side.
 
10. East Fork Trail, #650

Season: April - November
Length / Rating: Easy.
Directions: Drive Hwy. 35 to Polallie Trailhead
Description: This trail incurred heavy damage during the flooding last fall.  Parts of the trail are gone.  This trail no longer usable except from Polallie Trailhead to the Tamanawas Tie Junction.  That section has been cleared.
 
11. Gumjuwac Trail, #480

Season: May - October
Length / Rating: 4.4 Miles. Difficult.
Directions: Drive Hwy. 35 to Robinhood Campground. Park in the wide spot on the west side of the highway, or under the trees on the east side.
Description: Cross the bridge on the east side of the highway to start the trail. The trail climbs steadily in a series of switchbacks to Rd. 3550. Your hike can be continued on Trail #480 to Gumjuwac Saddle or on Trail #458 to Lookout Mt. for spectacular views and summer wildflowers.
 
12. Lake Shore Trail, #656

Season: May - October
Length / Rating: 3.2 Miles. First mile is barrier-free. Easy / Moderate-Difficult for disabled users.
Directions: From Hood River drive Hwy. 35 for about 13 miles to Woodworth Road. Travel west on Woodworth Road 3 miles to Dee Highway (281). Turn right on Dee Hwy. for about 5 miles to the old mill site. Turn left, drive across bridge, stay left and follow signs to Lost Lake. This trail may be reached from Hwy. 26 by turning left onto Lolo Pass (Rd. 18) then turning right on Rd. 1810 at the top of the pass. Rd. 1810 returns to Rd.18 after 4 miles and you continue to the junction of Rd. 13. Turn left and follow Rd. 13 to Lost Lake.
Description: The trail begins with a magnificent view of Mount Hood reflected in the clear blue water of Lost Lake. Multi-canopied forest and other lakeside views make this a pleasant hike. This trail starts at the day use parking lot. Note: You will be required to pay a small parking fee.
 
13. Mazama Trail, #625 - Mt. Hood Wilderness

Season: June - October
Length / Rating: 7.5 Miles. Difficult.
Directions: From Portland: Drive Hwy. 26 east to Zigzag. Turn on Lolo Pass (Rd. 18), follow it about 10 miles to Rd. 1810 (rough road). Take a right and drive 5 miles to Rd. 1811, take a right and drive 3 miles to trailhead.

From Hood River: Drive Hwy. 35 for about 13 miles to Woodworth Road. Travel west on Woodworth Road 3 miles to Dee Highway (281). Turn right on Dee Highway for about 5 miles to the Dee Hardwood plant, turn left, drive across bridge, stay left and follow signs to Lost Lake for about 7 miles to Rd. 18. Turn left onto Rd. 18 to 1810. Follow 1810 to 1811 and drive 3 miles to the trailhead.
Description: The trail starts in managed forest on the ridge above Ladd Creek with Mt. Hood towering in the background. The trail switches back up through a talus slope, then up a steep ridge. Then it follows Cathedral Ridge through dense forest, which opens to flowered glades near the junction with the Timberline Trail. The Mazamas reconstructed this trail for their 100th anniversary. NW Forest Pass required. Wilderness - Group size limit is 12 heartbeats.
 
14. Oak Ridge Trail, #688A

Season: April - October
Length / Rating: 4.6 Miles. Difficult.
Directions: Drive south from Hood River on Hwy. 35 for about 16 miles to Smullin Road (1 mile past Hood River Ranger Station). Turn left on Smullin Road and follow it until it takes a sharp turn to the south (right). Take the dirt road to the left. Trail begins about 1/4 mile up road.
Description: You will see views of Mt. Hood as well as Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainier and the Hood River Valley.
 
15. Old Growth Trail, #657

Season: May - October
Length / Rating: 2 Miles. Barrier-free. Easy / Moderate-Difficult for disabled users.
Directions: From Hood River drive Hwy. 35 for about 13 miles to Woodworth Road. Travel west on Woodworth Road 3 miles to Dee Highway (281). Turn right on Dee Hwy. for about 5 miles to the old mill site. Turn left, drive across bridge, stay left and follow signs to Lost Lake. This trail may be reached from Hwy. 26 by turning left onto Lolo Pass (Rd. 18) then turning right on Rd. 1810 at the top of the pass. Rd. 1810 returns to Rd.18 after 4 miles and you continue to the junction of Rd. 13. Turn left and follow Rd. 13 to Lost Lake.
Description: The Old Growth Trail is an interpretive trail that is barrier-free, i.e. accessible for wheelchairs. The trail is ideal for all age groups and offers spectacular views of an old growth forest and is equipped with interpretive signs to enhance your knowledge of the forest. You can do a loop by returning on barrier-free portion of the Lake Shore Trail. Note: You will be required to pay a small parking fee.
 
16. Surveyor’s Ridge Trail, #688

Season: June - October
Length / Rating: 23.4 Miles. Difficult.
Directions: North end - From Hood River take Hwy. 35 south for 14 miles to Pinemont Drive (FS Rd. 17). Turn left on Pinemont and continue 5 miles to Rd. 630 (spur road immediately south of the powerlines). Turn right onto 630 and follow to parking area.

South end - From Hood River take Hwy. 35 south for 26 miles to FS Rd.44. Turn left and follow 44 for 3 1/2 miles to Rd. 620. The trail crosses Rd. 620 a few yards from the junction with 44. Parking is limited.
Description: Highlights include magnificent glimpses of Mt. Hood and the Hood River Valley. Landscape varies from open grassy slopes and meadows, to rocky outcropping, to abandoned logging roads. If you wish to car shuttle the one way trip is 11.7 miles.
 
17. Umbrella Falls, #667; Sahalie Falls Trail, #667C (loop)

Season: June - October
Length / Rating: 4.1 Miles. Moderate.
Directions: Drive Hwy. 35 to Hood River Meadows turnoff. (Note that this turn off is 1 mile north of Mt. Hood Meadows Ski area). Follow the road to a graveled parking area.
Description: Take Elk Meadows Trail #645 1/2 mile to Junction Trail #667. Take #667 two miles to Umbrella Falls (you will pass the junction of Trail #667C just before viewing the falls). To finish the loop, backtrack to trail #667C to Sahalie Falls. The trail then continues on to return to the graveled parking lot.
