The Barlow District office is currently undergoing remodeling.  It is anticipated that the office will remain open to visitors during remodel and construction. Please call the Barlow Ranger District at 541-467-2291 before visiting to ensure that the office is open. One change immediately visible to visitors is the temporary public parking area which has now been moved to the north side of the office.

November 10, 2009

Beginning at 0630, November 10, 2009, Bagby will not be accessible as contractors are falling hazard trees in the trailhead parking and overflow parking at No-Horn.  The project should be completed by 10AM. 

Road 63 road repair is complete and the road is now open!

All campgrounds on the Clackamas River Ranger District including Indian Henry, Lake Harriet, Lazy Bend, and campgrounds within the Olallie Lake Scenic Area are closed. 


The following campgrounds may be used, but there is no water or garbage service:  Lake Harriet, Armstrong, and Sunstrip, and Shellrock.  Please respect the campgrounds and surrounding land, pack it in and out. 

Use caution whether driving or hiking.  Be aware that many trails in the new wilderness areas have not been cleared this season. 

  • Road 46 is open to Detroit.
  • The following trails have been cleared in the Bull of the Woods Wilderness:  Pansy Lake Trail #551, Dickey Lake Trail #549, Schreiner Trail #555, West Lake Way #556, Bull of the Woods #550, #558 Motherlode.

Signs informing visitors about camping restrictions along Hwy 224 from the Forest boundary to the junction of forest road 4620.  (The road to Indian Henry Campground).  Currently, campfires are allowed in dispersed camping areas. However, please ensure that fires are kept small and are surrounded by a ring of rocks.  People with campfires should have water and a shovel available to extinguish the fires.   Never leave a fire unattended unless you have first drowned and stirred the fire until it is actually cold to the touch.

This closure to camping has been in effect since the late 1970's and will be enforced. No Camping signs have been posted, please comply with camping restrictions.  Contact Clackamas River Ranger District (503) 630-6861 for more information. 

Bagby Update

11/10/09:

Hazard Trees will be dropped in the Bagby Trailhead Parking area as well as the overflow parking in No-Horn.  No parking or access from 0630 through 1000, November 10, 2009.

If you park along the road, make sure you are off the fog line, you may receive a ticket for obstructing the roadway...

Self Service Fee Station at Bagby Trailhead is operational. 

As a reminder, alcohol is not permitted at Bagby Hot Springs.  Please pack out your garbage.

Clothing is optional only in the Bath Houses.  Please be respectful to those around you.  Be courteous to other Bagby patrons,  if there are otheres waiting to get into the tubs, please limit your soaking time. 

Weather at this time of the year is unpredictable, make sure you are prepared and that someone knows where you are....

Currently calling for sunshine with highs in the 50's through Thursday(11/05).  Then rain expected Friday afternoon through the weekend with snow levels dropping as low as 5550ft by Monday (11/09)

CLOUD CAP ROAD RD #3512 :OPEN ---No woodcutting permitted. Please stay on road or Tilly Jane trail #643.  Absolutely no off-trail or off-road use allowed in the burn area.                                                                

Timberline Trail: 

Timberline Trail is still closed through the Eliot washout area, you can exit off the trail at Elk Cove Tr.

.  Bridge still out at Red Hill/RD #16...only access is from RD 18/Lolo Pass.  All other roads open.

Campgrounds : All campgrounds closed for the winter    You may use sites, but there are no services, no water, etc.  Also, no fees.  Pack-it-in, pack-it-out, please.  If campground is gated, do not block gate with your vehicle.

Weather and state roads:  Use links above for current information. 

•  Hiker bridge over the Sandy River (Ramona Falls trail, Sandy River trail) has been REMOVED for the season.

•  Road 18 (Lolo Pass Rd) - OPEN - BUT, will become impassable soon as more snow falls.

•  Road 2656 (Trillium Lake Rd)- Gate is CLOSED

•  Road 1825 (Road into Old Maid Flat area) Gate is OPEN - but will close once snow-level drops that low.

•  Road 2618 ( Salmon River Rd ) OPEN

•  Road 2612 also known as Road 12 or the Still Creek Road:  fill slope failures have occurred at approximately .25 miles from the road's junction

   with Highway 26 forcing a road closure at the point of fill slope failure.  Recreation residences can still be accessed between Highway 26 and the

   closure by accessing the Still Creek Road via Forest Road 2620 (also known as Road 20 at East-end of the town of Rhododendron).

   Upper reaches of Road 2612 can also be accessed via the 2620 Road. 

   Road 2612 (Still Creek Road) winter gate is CLOSED

•  Road 2624 (Rd. 24) - CLOSED at junction with Hwy 26, use back way to access residences.

•  Road 2650 (Still Creek C.G. Rd) - Gate is CLOSED

•  Road 1825-380 is closed approximatley .5 miles above Riley Horse Camp due to a road fill slope failure which occurred this past winter. 

•  West Leg Road (Road 2645) - Gate is CLOSED

•  Road 42 (Skyline Road side off of Hwy 26) is OPEN
