About Mt. Baker

The mountain itself lies in two separate congressionally designated areas: the Mt. Baker Wilderness Area and the Mt. Baker National Recreation Area [NRA].

The majority of the mountain lies in the Wilderness Area. The NRA encompasses only the south slope. Both areas are open to hikers and climbers, though each has unique regulations and use limitations. Be sure to read the Permits and Regulations section thoroughly.
