Stiles Spring prescribed fire burn unit compromises approximately 750 acres of fuel model 9 and 50 acres of fuel model 6 in the primary firing area. In addition there are 2 contingency area identified that represent approximately 400-500 acres on BLM managed land. The interior of the unit contains parcels of Jeld Wen Inc land that have been approved for fire within these areas. The season for this burn unit is the spring, which means that large diameter dead fuels (> 3" dbh) that contribute to intensity will have higher levels of moisture. The unit objectives are focused on fuel reduction for the dominant model, FM 9. The smaller diameter size classes are the primary achievable target fuels, in addition to reducing needle and duff lay accumulation.
