Corral Springs Campground Camping and Picnicking
|
Corral Springs Campground is two miles north of Chemult on U.S. 97
then two miles west on Road 9774 (Corral Springs Road). Corral Springs
is situated in a lodgepole pine stand interspersed with small meadows.
Activities include hunting, mountain bike riding, wildlife and bird watching,
walking,picnicking and, of course, camping.
This is a rustic campground with few amenities. There is no fee
for use of the area and sites are available on a first-come, first-served
basis from mid-May to mid-October. There are 6 camp units that will
accommodate tents, trailers, and RV combinations up to 50 feet. Vault
toilets, picnic tables and fire rings are available for use within
the campground. There is no garbage service. Please leave a clean
campsite! Highway 97 closely follows the old Klamath Trail, which was the
main route used by Indians and explorers as they traveled between
the Columbia River and California. The springs are near the old trail
and served these early travelers. In his early explorations of the
American West, Captain John C. Fremont of the Corps of Topographical
Engineers, followed the old Klamath Trail in December of 1843. He
probably stayed overnight at Corral Springs. |
