places to cast your favorite lure or
fly!
About 2 million people each year recreate
in streams and lakes on Pacific Northwest
National Forests. But with nearly 20,000
miles of fish-bearing streams and 200,000
acres of lakes, there"s still plenty
of space for everyone to find their own "secret
spot" for an extraordinary experience
fishing, fish-viewing or exploring on
a National Forest.
Opportunities abound to pursue or view
the legendary Northwest salmon and steelhead,
several species of trout, or a variety
of warm-water fish (see Fish
Resources.)
Aquatic environments vary from the
temperate rain forest rivers of the
Coast Range to spring-fed creeks
of the sunny "east-side", from huge deep reservoirs
of the arid Columbia River basin, to glistening alpine
lakes in the Cascade, Olympic, and Blue Mountains.
Twenty National Forest units cover the length and
breadth of Oregon and Washington States, allowing
you to "wade" from sea level to over 10,000+ feet,
and find mint-bright Chinook, pole-bending Sturgeon,
or leaping Rainbows in spectacular surroundings.
