Rogue River

Rogue River The Rogue River is a large river surrounded by rocky cliffs and forested mountains. It flows into the Pacific Ocean near Gold Beach, OR. It has a 12 mile "wild section" within the Wild Rogue Wilderness that requires a permit to float from May 15 to November 15. There are over 50 licensed fishing guides operating drift and power boats.

Hiking: 26 miles
Driving Directions: Starting at Gold Beach, OR, travel north 1.5 miles on US Hwy 101 to County Road 595. Turn right and go 11 miles to Lobster Creek bridge where the road becomes Forest Road 33. This road proceeds upstream 33 miles along the Rogue River. The next 25 miles of river are accessible on by trail or boat.
Fish Species: Chinook salmon, coho salmon, steelhead, rainbow trout, cutthroat trout
Fishing Methods: Fly, Spin, Bait
Angling Season: Year-round
Campgrounds: Lobster Creek (7 sites), Quosantana Creek (43), and IllaheCampgrounds (14 sites). Boat launches at Lobster Creek, Quosatana Creek and Foster Bar. There are also private boat launches and cabins near the small town of Agness, OR which is 33 miles upstream of Lobster Creek Campground.

Illinois River

Illinois River The Scenic Illinois River was accepted into the Oregon State Scenic Waterways System in 1970 and the Federal Wild and Scenic River system in 1977. It provides opportunities for dayuse as well as overnight float trips, including trips through the Kalmiopsis Wilderness during higher flows. Expert boating skills and rubber water craft are needed. The river flows through a diverse environment composed of unique serpentine geology and old-growth conifer forest. The emerald green water of the Illinois provides a cool break from the hot summer temperatures. Primitive camping and numerous hiking trails are available along the river corridor.

Driving Directions: From Grants Pass, travel south on Highway 199 22 miles to the town of Selma, OR. Turn right on the 5070 Road. Proceed 7.5 miles to the first river access point. There are numerous locations along the river to fish.
Fish Species: Coho salmon*, chinook salmon*, steelhead*, rainbow trout*

Upper Rogue River

Upper Rogue River The upper Rogue River is a fast-flowing and cold Cascade Mountain river that originates near Crater Lake National Park. Camping, hiking, fishing, cycling and picnicing are popular activities along the river corridor from Prospect upstream to near Crater Lake National Park.

Driving Directions: The Upper Rogue River is located approximately 45 miles northeast of Medford, Oregon
Fish Species: Rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, brown trout, brook trout

Angling Season: Spring, Summer
Campgrounds: Several campgrounds are located near the river above the town of Prospect and the Prospect Ranger District. These include: Natural Bridge, Union Creek and Fairwell Bend.
