Magone Lake

Magone Lake Magone Lake is at 5000 feet elevation. Trail #352 is 1.5 miles is rated as easy. Horses, mountain bikes, and ATV use prohibited. The F.S. Campground has 17 picnic sites, 3 tent sites, 20 tent/trailer sites. User fee is $10/night. Water is available. This is a very popular camping and recreational area. There is a variety of wildlife, flora, and scenery to be enjoyed.

Hiking: 1.5 miles
Driving Directions: From Hwy 26 west of Prairie City, go north on Bear Creek Road, County Rd 18 for approximately 12 miles & turn north on Forest Rd #3620. Follow signs.
Fish Species: Redband trout, brook trout
Fishing Methods: Fly, Spin, Bait
Angling Season: Spring, Fall
Campgrounds: The Magone Lake Campground is a developed Forest Service site with a campground host to assist with camper needs.

Strawberry Lake

Strawberry Lake

A favorite family and kid's site
Strawberry Lake is located in the Strawberry Wilderness at 6200 feet in elevation. The lake is approximately 31 acres in size with a maximum depth of 40 feet. The lake is reached by Trail # 375 from the Strawberry Trailhead (1.4 mi). There is no charge for parking at this trailhead.

Hiking: 1.4 miles
Driving Directions: From Prairie City take County Rd #60 south for about 7 miles to Forest Boundary. Continue on Forest Rd 6001 for 2 miles to Strawberry CG and trailhead.
Fish Species: Brook trout, rainbow trout
Fishing Methods: Fly, Spin, Bait
Angling Season: Summer, Fall
Campgrounds: Campground Information: Developed campgrounds in the vicinity of Strawberry Lake are: Strawberry Lake CG (12 sites, drinking water, fee $6 per night), Slide Creek CG (3 sites, no drinking water, no fee), Slide Horse Camp (3 sites w/horse facilities, no drinking water, no fee), and McNaughton CG (3 sites, no drinking water, no fee). Dispersed camping sites are located around the lake. This is a heavy use area on weekends and holidays. Check with Prairie City Ranger District for current use restrictions at the lake.

Trout Farm Pond

Trout Farm Pond

A favorite family and kid's site
The pond and campground are at 4900 feet elevation. A 1/2 mile hard surfaced accessible trail circles the pond. Portions of this trail are handicap accessible. Horses, ATVs, and mountain bikes are prohibited on the trail. Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife stocks the pond with hatchery rainbow trout. This is a heavily used area during summer. This is a popular fishing site for families with small children.

Driving Directions: From Prairie City, take County Rd #62 for about 15 miles to Trout Farm Campground.

Campgrounds: Campground Information: The campground includes 6 tent/trailer sites and drinking water is available. There is a $6/night user fee. Three picnic sites are available for day use. A large group picnic site with a shelter is also available. There is no charge for day use of the site.

Yellowjacket Reservoir

Yellowjacket Reservoir The lake and campground are at 4800 feet elevation. The lake covers approximately 34 surface acres and is 23-25 feet in depth. The area is a popular boating and fishing recreation site. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife stocks the lake with rainbow trout. The lake is open for winter ice fishing and can be accessed by snowmobile when road access is snowed over.

Driving Directions: From Hines, use County Rd 127 to Emigrant Cr. & Jct with County Rd 47. Travel north to jct with County Rd37. Travel east about 2.5mi to access road jct and follow signs past Turner Cabin to Yellowjacket.

Angling Season: Year-round
Campgrounds: Yellowjacket campground supports 20 camping sites. Drinking water and restrooms are available. Boats are allowed. There is a $7 fee per night to use the campground.

Slide Lake

Slide Lake Slide Lake is located in Strawberry Mountain Wilderness Area at 7450 feet in elevation. The lake is 13 acres in size with a maximum depth of 8 feet. Slide Lake can be reached by Trail #372 from the Slide Connector Trailhead (5.1 mi). The lake can also be reached from the Strawberry Lake Trailhead by Trail #s 375 (1.0 mi), 372 (2.0 mi), 385 (0.7 mi), and 385A (0.2 mi). There is no charge for parking at these trailheads.
