Why was the data set created?

For management of natural resources

How was the data set created?

  1. From what previous works were the data drawn?

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?

    Date: 02-Feb-2001 (process 1 of 3)
The Administrative boundaries in the GIS layer are taken from the Primary Base Series (PBS) 7.5 minute quadrangle maps (scale 1:24,000). The Ranger District boundaries were added to the quads by the SO GIS shop using boundary delineations contained on the Forest 1"=1 mile planimetric maps, the Forest Visitor Map (1990), and District mapping. These quads were scanned, then edited in 1990. Additional updates for land exchanges have been made since then. New five character ownership codes were added in 1998. These codes match the codes in the ownership field in the VEGIS database. Current ranger district codes were added in 2000. This cover was built at a map scale of 1:24000. (process 2 of 3)
In 2003, a new field, 'proclaimnf' was added to define parcels of land that are either inside or outside the boundary of the proclaimed Willamette National Forest (WNF). The majority of lands within the contiguous WNF boundary and the "islands" of proclaimed National Forest land outside the contiguous WNF boundary are attributed "inside". Areas of land within the contiguous WNF boundary that are not proclaimed National Forest land are attributed as "outside".
