Metadata elements shown with blue text are defined in the Federal Geographic Data Committee's (FGDC) Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Elements shown with green text are defined in the ESRI Profile of the CSDGM. Elements shown with a green asterisk (*) will be automatically updated by ArcCatalog. ArcCatalog adds hints indicating which FGDC elements are mandatory; these are shown with gray text.

Lines were drafted from 1:24000 USGS 7.5 minute quad contour lines. Heavy oversight from Forest Hydrologist occurred throughout the process. This cover was built at a map scale of 1:24000.

Very sure, based on definite knowledge of FISH_SPECIES or general class of sifh, and an "A" code for FLOW_DURATION, as well as sureness of the existence/absence of domestic use. Stream flow as a potential qualifier is ignored for simplicity (absence of this knowledge is not very significant).
USDA Forest Service
An estimate utilizing information that is less than complete -- (a) at least one of the field accuracy codes is less that "best" (but still has a value other than "worst"), or (b) it is unknown whether there is domestic use.
USDA Forest Service
Have no idea, either have no data or fish occurrence or flow duration has no entry (Null) and therefore STREAM_CLASS in turn has no entry.

PRESENT - Specie(s) using habitats (spawning, rearing, or migratory routes) within given stream reach as documented by snorkeling surveys, visual surveys, historical records, electrofishing, and other collection methods. Species presence also valid for intermittant stream segments during periods of surface flow.
USDA Forest Service
UNKNOWN BUT SUSPECTED - We have reason to believe that fish habitat & fish may exist within these stream sections but stream surveys have not been conducted nor has fish use been otherwise documented.
USDA Forest Service
UNKNOWN BUT NOT SUSPECTED - We have reason to believe that fish habitat & fish do not exist within these stream sections but stream surveys have not been conducted nor has fish use been otherwise documented.
USDA Forest Service
POTENTIAL - Fish species not currently found, yet surveys indicate that habitat(s) are present. Historical records (written or oral) may/may not indicate past use.
USDA Forest Service
NONE - No documented fish use or habitat (present or historical). This situation is typical of smaller, steeper headwater streams.

USDA Forest Service
Estimate based on field examination but at the wrong time of the year and/or after a non-average snowpack winter.

Fairly good. Information was obtained from stream flow designations shown on USGS 7.5 minute topographic maps. This just applies to the "inked in" stream course lines. If no lines exist on the topographic map for the segment in question, then Code C should not be used -- one can not be "fairly sure" of the accuracy.
USDA Forest Service
Code is a guess based upon the geomorphic setting of the segment in comparison to other similar settings of known codes.
USDA Forest Service
Have no idea; no code was assigned under Stream_Flow

Fairly good. Information was derived from drainageway topographic line indentations shown on the USGS 7.5 minute topographic maps. The order was calculated by an algorithm within the GIS system computer. This results in the next downstream segment being assigned Order 1. This is the same as calling the segment an intermittent channel -- this may be false on the ground.

***DRAFT*** Estimation. Data for adjacent Subwatershed which flows into this one not available.
USDA Forest Service
The unique identifier for a segment of stream. At minimum segments are teminated at confluences.
National/Regional/Local application.
A subjective description of the relative value of a stream based on the uses of the water within the stream or on the potential for that stream to affect the beneficial uses of streams which are lower in the watershed. Under code description, "use" refers to spawning, rearing or migration. Thus the stream could be one that becomes dry later after the fish have finished using it.
National/Regional/Local application.
Class I - Perennial or intermittent stream segments that have one or more of the following charactristics; -- used by sensitve/trheatened/endangered fish, or large numbers of other (non-listed) fish. -- Direct source of water for domestic use. -- flow enough water to be a major contributor to the quantity of water in a Class I stream.
USDA Forest Service
Class II - Perennial or intermittent stream segments that have one or more of the following characteristics; -- Used by fish but does not satisfy Class I criteria. -- Flow enough water to be a major contributor to the quantity of water in a Class II stream.
USDA Forest Service
Class III - All other stream segments that do not meet higher class criteria, and are perennial and/or have bankside riparian shrubs (Willow, Alder, etc.).
USDA Forest Service
Class IV - All other stream segments that are intermittent but do not meet higher class criteria
USDA Forest Service
Category E - All stream segments that have ephemeral flow duration.
USDA Forest Service
Flow duration broadly signifies the proportion of theyear that water flows or is ponded within a stream segment.
National/Regional/Local application.
Ditch
USDA Forest Service
Ephemeral -- Water flows only during and immediately after periods of precipitation or the melting of snow. Riparian vegetation is rare or absent along the streamcourse. Less than 50% of the stream segment's length has a well-defined channel, or all of the stream segment'ls length is a draw bottom with a poorly-defined channel to no channel. A poorly defined channel is a shallow channel in the bottom of a draw, usually less than 6 inches wide and 1 inch deep, that normally does not have sufficient flow to erode bed or banks, or flush sediment and litter. Ephemeral streams occur in small-acreage draws and swales.
USDA Forest Service
Lake Centerline
USDA Forest Service
Intermittant/non-riparian - Water flows part of theyear in the stream segment, usually during the spring and autumn months. Riparian vegetation is rare or absent along streambanks. Surface water flow ceases by a few weeks after snowmelt or after onset of the dry season, usually by June 1 to July 15. At lease 50% of the stream segment's length has a well-defined stream channel. A well-defined channel has a bed, and banks and mnormally lacks litter, indicatin streamflow is sufficient to move material during runoff periods. Include most gullies here.
USDA Forest Service
In-and-out - A complex of one or more perennial stream segments with one or more intermittent/riparian and/or intermittent/non-riparian stream segments. Each segment of the complex is too shor (<1/4 inch long) to be mapped at the chosen scale.
USDA Forest Service
Perennial - Water flows yearlong in stream segment. Riparian vegetation is present along the streambanks. Stream segment may become intermittent only during periods of extreme drought
USDA Forest Service
Intermittant/Riparian - Water flows most of the year in stream segment. Riparian vegetation is usually present along streambanks. Surface water flow ceases during the latter part of the dry season, usually between July 15 and Sept 21, depending on local elevation, aspect, snowpack/rainfall relationships. Subsurface water sustains riparian vegetation throughout the dry season.
USDA Forest Service
Name of the stream
National/Regional/Local application.
The stream order signifies the relative position of a stream segment in a basin drainage network: the smallest, unbranched, intermittent tributaries (having a defined/scoured channel; a Class IV) are designated order 1; the junction of two first-order streams produces a stream segment of order 2; the junction of two second-order streams produces a stream segment of order 3, etc.
National/Regional/Local application.
As described in the definition
USDA Forest Service
Fish species accuracy codes qualify the condision for a species presence/absence in a given location providing the best available knowledge about the species and/or their habitat.
National/Regional/Local application.
PRESENT - Specie using habitats (spawning, rearing, or migratory routes) within given stream reach as documented by snorkeling surveys, visual surveys, historical records, electrofishing, and other collection methods. Species presence also valid for intermittant stream segments during periods of surface flow.
