Metadata elements shown with blue text are defined in the Federal Geographic Data Committee's (FGDC) Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Elements shown with green text are defined in the ESRI Profile of the CSDGM. Elements shown with a green asterisk (*) will be automatically updated by ArcCatalog. ArcCatalog adds hints indicating which FGDC elements are mandatory; these are shown with gray text.
Vegetation Compartment Map
Compartment map to compartmentalize the forest into manageable partitions to number stand polygons in the evg vegetation layer.
The Compartment number was derived by taking the OLD_SWS field (17 digit old subwatershed code) in this table and stripping off all but the last 4 digits where the first 2 digits represented the watershed and the last 2 represented the subwatershed in calendar year 2000. Then a single digit from 1 thru 9 was placed in front of 4 digits to make a 5 digit code in the Compartment field. The first digit of the 5 digit code represented the sub-basins the Malheur NF fell in at that time. The Compartment Number is used to number each polygon of the stand level coverage called evg. NOTE though the numbers in 2000 meant something as described above the current subwatersheds have changed largely by combining many of these former smaller subwatersheds into larger ones. These compartments would probably relate to 7th field HUCs in the watershed layer if the forest chose to indentify 7th field hucs. Therefore the compartment number is just a number to subdivide the evg layer into mangeable chunks. This 5 digit number is used as the first 5 digits of the 9 digit number in the evg cover at this time.
