Process_Description:
The SRI was originally mapped on aerial photos (unknown year, scale; probably black-and-white) ain 1976 by soil scientisits Bob Snyder and John M. Wade. The spatial features were ocularly transferred to clear film overlaying mosaiced photographic film copies of 15-minute USGS quads, 1:62,500 scale. Typically, but not always, four quads were spliced to form a single base map. The SRI polygons were labelled with the SRI code using stick-on black on clear labels. These original overlays and base maps were used to photographically produce the published SRI books for the Mt. Baker and the Snoqualmie National Forests.

In 1991, to capture the SRI data digitally, the original overlays were traced (1:1) onto clear film, including only the line work, excluding the codes and the symbology showing special features such as cliffs, springs, etc. In the Summer/Fall of 1991, these manuscripts were scanned using the Houston Instruments plotter/scanner and were processed in LTPlus for transfer to MOSS and later to Arc. Digital processing was completed for the forest in 1994.
